December Newsletter

Sing With Us

I took a lick of a peppermint stick,

And oh it tasted yummy!

It used to be on the Christmas tree,

But now it’s in my tummy

Lessons

This month our students will be learning about family traditions, trees, winter, winter animals, and about the many other celebrations that other cultures celebrate this time of year. If you would not like your student involved in Santa activities please just let us know.

Reminders

Check your child’s cubby and mailbox at least once a week.

Please make sure your student has weather appropriate gear as we go outside daily!

Our morning cut off time is 9am unless your child has an appointment, then it is 10am with a note.

The last month of 2023, wow this year went by fast! I always love December because it is filled with so
many adorable crafts and activities. We will be having a Christmas party and doing secret Santa exchange for each classroom again this year. Names will be on each classroom door starting 12/1. There is a $10
maximum budget.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be stopping by on 12/4 from 9am to 11am. It will be a fun filled day with a magic show, crafts, a story, and professional pictures with Santa. The cost of this exciting day is $20!

Our School will be closed on 12/25 in honor of Christmas Day!

Happy Birthday

Camillie 12/1
Frankie-Lynn 12/21

Hello to the 2023-2024 School Year!

Can you believe it is the beginning of a new school year already? The staff is pumped to get the ball rolling and we hope the children are just as excited. Most of our students will be moving up to a new classroom so “Meet the Teacher” packets will be going home.

I know most of our parents know all of the staff, but if you want to take time to meet your child’s teacher and get more details about how their classroom operates just let admin know and we can schedule a time.

We will be going to Fifer’s Orchards for some apple picking this month. Permission slips will be going home soon! With so many other choices we just want to thank you for choosing Rainbow Xpress! I hope you are ready because this year is going to rock!

Important Dates

Last day of camp 8/31

No School 9/1

Labor Day-No school 9/4

Happy Birthday

Xariyah-9/3

Classroom Information

ASQ information will be going home within the next few weeks. This year ASQs are mandatory, each family will need to fill one out for their student. We work hard to make sure each of our students starts their education journey off right and the ASQ is a big part of letting us know where they are and what they need to succeed!

September is starting off with the “All About Me” theme in each classroom. This helps teachers get to know their new students and for the students to get to know one another.

Reminders

Each student needs at least one weather appropriate outfit in their cubby.

Check your student’s mailbox for important info.

Please walk your child to class at drop off and pick them up from their class. This allows the opportunity to talk with the teacher, check cubbies, and read information on the parent boards.

Tips for Packing a Healthy Lunchbox for Your Preschooler

One of the many responsibilities that come with sending your child off to preschool is ensuring they have a Healthy Lunchbox to fuel their day. A nutritious and balanced meal not only provides the energy they need for all the activities at school but also sets them on the path of developing healthy eating habits for life. So, how do you ensure your child’s lunchbox is both healthy and appealing to their young palate? Here are some tips to guide you.

Learn more: Packing A Healthy Lunchbox

5 Key Components of a Healthy Lunchbox

A balanced meal is crucial for a child’s growth and development. When packing a Healthy Lunchbox, ensure you include:

1. Proteins

Think beyond just meats; beans, tofu, eggs, and dairy products are excellent sources of protein.

2. Whole Grains

Opt for whole grain bread, pasta, or rice for sustained energy throughout the day.

3. Fruits and Vegetables

Aim for a colorful box with a mix of both. The more colors, the broader the range of nutrients.

4. Dairy or Dairy Alternatives

Yogurt, cheese, or fortified plant-based milks offer calcium and other vital nutrients.

5. Healthy Fats

Avocado, nuts (if the school allows), and seeds are great options.

4 Tips for Building a Healthy Lunchbox

Here are some tips to help your child enjoys their healthy meals.

1. Incorporate Fun and Variety

Rotate your lunchbox menu to ensure your child doesn’t tire of the same foods. Using cookie cutters to create fun shapes or incorporating colorful skewers can make the lunchbox more appealing.

2. Engage Your Child

Allow your child to participate in the lunchbox-making process. Whether it’s picking out their favorite fruits or helping prepare a sandwich, their involvement can increase the likelihood of them eating their lunch.

3. Mind the Portions

Remember, preschoolers have smaller stomachs. While it’s crucial to pack a Healthy Lunchbox, ensure you’re not overwhelming them with quantity.

4. Limit Sugars and Processed Foods

It might be tempting to throw in a candy bar or a pack of chips, but try to limit processed foods. Instead, opt for natural sweeteners like fruits or homemade treats.

Going Beyond a Healthy Lunchbox

While ensuring your child has a Healthy Lunchbox is essential, remember that their overall well-being is a combination of good nutrition and other factors.

Alongside nutrition, ensure your child gets ample playtime. The Benefits of Play-Based Learning cannot be emphasized enough, contributing significantly to their cognitive, physical, and emotional development.

Your child’s First Day at a Childcare Center can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. Alongside packing them a Healthy Lunchbox, ensure you prepare them emotionally by talking about the new experiences they’ll have and the friends they’ll make.

In conclusion

Packing a Healthy Lunchbox might seem challenging initially, but with a bit of planning and creativity, it can be a fun and rewarding experience for both you and your child.

Discover the key Benefits of Play-Based Learning and why it is essential for holistic growth. Dive deep into the advantages and significance of play in a child’s early years.

Understanding the Benefits of Play-Based Learning for Your Child

Children have an innate need to play. It’s more than just a recreational activity for them; it’s their way of exploring the world, understanding complex concepts, and learning essential life skills. In recent years, the Benefits of Play-Based Learning have garnered much attention from educators, childcare professionals, and parents alike. Let’s dive into what play-based learning entails and why it’s so beneficial.

3 Benefits of Play-Based Learning

Play is a child’s natural way of understanding their environment. Through play, they learn about themselves, their peers, and the world around them. The Benefits of Play-Based Learning aren’t just limited to fun and enjoyment; they span across various developmental domains.

Learn more: 7 Benefits of Play-Based Learning

1. Cognitive Development

Play stimulates a child’s curiosity. Whether they are solving a puzzle or building a tower, they are constantly challenging their brains, developing problem-solving skills, and enhancing their creativity.

2. Physical Development

Activities like running, jumping, or even coloring, help in refining motor skills. Fine motor skills, like holding a pencil or tying shoelaces, and gross motor skills, like hopping or skipping, are both honed through play.

3. Emotional and Social Development

Playtime is also a platform for children to express their emotions and learn about empathy, sharing, and cooperation. Role-playing games or group activities foster teamwork, teach kids about negotiation, and promote a sense of belonging.

Going Beyond the First Day at a Childcare Center

Starting school or attending a childcare center is a significant milestone for children. One of the main attractions, apart from making new friends, is the plethora of play-based activities they get to participate in. On the First Day at a Childcare Center, children might be introduced to various play stations – from art and craft corners to sensory play zones. These play areas are meticulously designed, keeping in mind the Benefits of Play-Based Learning.

3 Ways to Integrate Play-Based Learning at Home

Play doesn’t have to be limited to school or childcare centers. Parents can integrate the Benefits of Play-Based Learning at home too. Here are a few ways:

1. Setting Up Play Zones

Dedicate specific areas in the house for play. This could be a reading nook, an art station, or even a mini-theater for role-play activities.

2. Encourage Outdoor Play

Nature offers the best playground. Activities like climbing, running, or even observing insects can be incredibly educational.

3. Healthy Playtime Snacks

While your child is engrossed in play, ensure they have a Healthy Lunchbox or snack box handy. Nutritious snacks not only provide the necessary energy but also teach them about the importance of healthy eating habits.

In Conclusion

The Benefits of Play-Based Learning are manifold. It’s an approach that respects children’s natural way of learning, promotes holistic development, and builds a foundation for academic learning in later years.

Parents and educators must recognize the power of play and encourage children to engage in meaningful, fun-filled, and educational playtime activities. After all, through play, we learn the most about ourselves and the world around us.

A guide for parents to help their children transition smoothly into their First Day at a Childcare Center. Learn tips and insights to make the experience positive and memorable.

Starting school is a significant milestone for both children and their parents. Preparing for the First Day at a Childcare Center can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. But with the right approach, it can be a smooth and positive experience. Here’s how you can prepare your child for this big step.

First Day at a Childcare Center: What to Expect

The first day in a new environment can be overwhelming for children. They will encounter new faces, new routines, and a whole new setting. Talk to your child about what they might expect, from playtime activities to snack breaks. Familiarize them with the concept of a classroom, teachers, and making new friends.

Learn More: Preparing For The First Day of Childcare

Benefits of Play-Based Learning

One of the main aspects of many childcare centers is the emphasis on play. It’s not just about fun and games; there’s a whole science behind it. Play-Based Learning encourages children to be curious, solve problems, and develop social skills. Before the big day, talk to your child about the exciting activities they might engage in. This can include painting, building with blocks, or storytime.

Packing for the First Day at a Childcare Center

A Healthy Lunchbox

Nutrition is crucial for young, growing minds and bodies. When packing a Healthy Lunchbox, include a mix of protein, healthy fats, and whole grains. Fruits and veggies are a must, and you can make them fun by cutting them into fun shapes or making a colorful salad. Avoid sugary snacks or drinks.

Comfort Item

Whether it’s a favorite toy, blanket, or a family photo, having a familiar item can provide comfort and reassurance to your child on their first day.

Spare Clothes

Accidents can happen, whether it’s a spill during lunch or a splash during playtime. Pack an extra set of clothes, just in case.

4 Tips for a Smooth First Day

Here are some tips to get you and your little one through their first day at a childcare center.

1. Visit Before the Big Day

If possible, arrange a visit to the childcare center before the first day. This will give your child an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the surroundings.

2. Talk About Their Feelings

It’s natural for children to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. Talk to them about their feelings, reassure them, and let them know it’s okay to feel this way.

3. Establish a Morning Routine

Children thrive on routine. Establishing a consistent morning routine can help reduce anxiety. This could include a special breakfast, reading a book together, or a fun morning song.

4. Goodbye Ritual

When it’s time to say goodbye, keep it short and sweet. Long drawn-out farewells can make the separation harder. Establish a special goodbye ritual, whether it’s a high-five, a hug, or a special phrase.

In conclusion

The First Day at a Childcare Center is just the beginning of a beautiful journey of learning, growth, and friendships. With the right preparation and mindset, it can be a positive and memorable experience for both you and your child.

Remember, every child is unique, so follow your instincts and do what feels right for your family. Please give us a call to know more about our childcare center.
